Assessor – MAAO (3)
The Board of Trustees of Pere Marquette Charter Township (Mason County, Michigan) is seeking a qualified individual for the full time position of Assessor. Pere Marquette Charter Township is a Lake Michigan community with 2,300 parcels including Residential, Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial, Utilities, DNR, and Personal Property with a combined SEV of $470M. Two major utilities are under contract to a Level 4 Assessor.
The Assessor is responsible for the preparing, maintaining, and certifying all assessment and tax records; certification of tax rolls; and preparation of documents for the Board of Review and Michigan Tax Tribunal.
Minimum requirements are a current State of Michigan Assessing license of MAAO (3) and three years of experience as an Assessor. PPE certification and a thorough understanding of property assessment principles, laws, and regulations is required.
The Assessor does market studies and documents uniform property valuations. He/She also works cooperatively with Township and County offices and staff, the property owners, and others. Experience with BS&A software, Apex, and Microsoft Office is required. Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical. Must have an unrestricted driver’s license.
The Assessor keeps regular office hours and works a 40 hour week, with one evening Board meeting per month required. Board of Review
We have openings for a Board of Review alternate member. Learn about the Board of Review on our Board of Review information page. Alternates attend all meetings of the Board of Review, to ensure they are prepared to set in as needed. There are 3 - 4 meetings in March, and one meeting each in July and December. Members must be Pere Marquette Township residents, be eligible to vote in the Township, and be property tax payers. First degree relatives of the Township Assessor are not eligible to serve on the Board of Review.

Zoning Board of Appeals
We have positions open for two "alternates" on the Zoning Board of Appeals. ZBA meets in regular session four times per year, with additional meetings as needed. Applicants for "alternate" should be able and willing to attend some regular ZBA meetings on a volunteer basis to become familiar with current issues and be able to step in when needed as an alternate. Alternates will only be paid for meetings they are required to attend.

Members and alternates on the ZBA must be residents of Pere Marquette Township. Employees and contractors of the Township may not serve as ZBA members.
